Dreams come true for Isabella

- EMILY HALLORAN emily.halloran@news.com.au

ISABELLA Jones is only fiveyears-old but she is unlikely to live much longer than her sixth birthday

Less than a month ago she was diagnosed with brain cancer and will soon start chemotherapy.

Sadly, doctors have predicted she will only live for another 12 months.

Last week, her parents Renee and Troy Jones asked Isabella to write a bucket list of things she would like to do before she dies.

“When she was first diagnosed she was diagnosed with a 15cm aggressive tumour,” Mrs Jones said.

“Within a matter of two and a half weeks it had grown another 4cm, so to 19cm in four weeks.

“She will be starting chemo and radiation in three weeks time.

“That’s going to be quite hard. (But) she’s a fighter and our little warrior.”

On Saturday, Isabella completed most of the items on her bucket list.

Emergency services from around the Gold Coast met at Southport Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) and surprised Isabella to help her complete her wish list.

“(She was) very nervous. I was overwhelmed,” Mrs Jones said.

“She didn’t know we were coming today.

“She only knew we would be going on a boat.”

Isabella was taken out in the VMR boat and had a ride in a fire truck and a police buggie.

Yesterday, The Social Club will be taking her out on a motorcycle ride.

Isabella was gifted special items too.

The Social Club gave Isabella her very own motorcycle jacket from Gasoline Alley, Queensland Police officers gave Isabella badges and the Southport Fire Service and VMR gifted her teddies.

The only emergency service which did not attend was Queensland Ambulance, as Isabella said to her parents she’s “spent too much time” in them.

Some of the wishes left to complete were “building a sandcastle at the beach, going bowling with Dad, and going to the movies with Mum”.

Mrs and Mr Jones thanked the emergency services in a heartbreaking speech.

“I’d just like to say thank you to everyone for fulfilling our little girl’s dream,” Mrs Jones said.

“It means everything. You take every day as if it’s your last. So every memory is so great to make.

“It’s something a parent doesn’t want to go through.

“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.” a few
