BIKINI WEATHER IN WINTER – IT MUST BE PARADISE

- TALISA ELEY tali.eley@news.com.au

THE Gold Coast has scored an early dose of spring heat, with the temperature set to soar to 25C today.

Surfers Paradise is forecast to be the warmest part of the city, while at Coolangatta it is expected to hover around 24C by lunchtime.

It is a far cry from the frosty winter weather forecast for Hobart and Melbourne, which are forecast to reach tops of 13C and 14C respectively.

Jess Gardner, from the Bureau of Meteorology, said the week had started warmer than usual.

“At the Seaway the average maximum temperature for this time of year is 21.2C, at Coolangatta it’s 20.7C, so we are a bit above average,” she said.

“It’s warming in response to a surface trough that’s moving eastwards, so not much cloud cover.”

Tallai’s Melody Davis, 21, and Lauren Thirrwall, 20, from Robina, enjoy the milder winters and said there was no reason not to hit the beach.

“We just try and get out as much as we can when we have work off in winter,” Ms Davis said.

“Here we are in shorts and a T-shirt in winter, we’re pretty lucky on the Gold Coast.”

The weather is expected to stay fine and sunny for most of the week, although temperatures are expected to cool off slightly by Thursday.

The Gold Coast is expected to reach 25C again tomorrow.

The sunny days come as a relief to locals, who have shivered through colderthan-average mornings on the Coast in recent weeks.

But don’t pack away the winter warmers too soon, with night time temperatures still expected to plunge to a chilly 7C in coming days.
