FLASH MEGA-MANSION SET TO GRACE MILLIONAIRES’ ROW

- ANDREW POTTS andrew.potts@news.com.au

ONE of the last humble houses on Millionaires’ Row will be demolished to make way for a three-storey mansion with a priceless view.

Orbit Homes is planning the new “asymmetric” fourbedroom building, earmarked for a site on the corner of Hedges Ave and Alfred St.

Plans submitted to the Gold Coast City Council reveal the house would be created on an angle, with the master bedroom on its second level looking out over the ocean through the gap at the end of Alfred St.

The bedroom level would have its own balcony, along with another, larger “entertainment” balcony on its first level

The house is described as having a “bespoke” architectural design that “is both sympathetic and complementary to the varied character” of Hedges Ave. Among the features are:

• A gatehouse.

• A “retreat”, bunk room, bathroom and bedroom/ ensuite on the ground level, which would also have an outdoor pool and garage.

• The first floor would include two bedrooms with ensuites, kitchen and entertaining area.

• The second level would have bathroom, ensuite, walkin wardrobe and balcony.

• A lift shaft would be on the northern side.

Area councillor Paul Taylor welcomed the project, which would fall within the area’s 9m height limit.

“This is the sort of development we want to see on Hedges Ave and on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“It is great to see such architecture coming in and making the place look really attractive.

“Hedges Ave continues to be a hive of activity.”

The development will go before the council’s planning committee later this year.
