Ryan the Bester of the pack in singles

with Brett Wilkie BROADBEACH’S Ryan Bester has continued his sublime form to take out the Tweed Open Premier Singles.

After leading 11-7 in the final against Tweed local Kurt Brown, Bester went up a gear and scored 14 unanswered shots to win 25-7.

It was an all Gold Coast/ Tweed semi-final with Bester defeating Peter Taylor from South Tweed and Brown accounting for Beenleigh’s Dale McWhinney-Shillingto­n in the other.

Linda Ralph, from New Zealand, was the awarded the best performed woman of the event after reaching the quarter-finals. The event started with 135 competitor­s.

In the past the best performed male and female in this event gained entry into the prestigiou­s Golden Nugget Singles at Tweed Heads, this year has seen a slight name change to the event with no one advancing.

Brown will make his Nugget debut this year while Bester will be chasing his third title in the event starting on Monday, August 5.

THE Gold Coast District Men’s Champion of Club Champion Singles are down to the semi-finals after Sunday’s eliminatio­n rounds.

Sean Ingham (Broadbeach) will play Clinton Bailey (Tweed Heads) and Jason Constable (Beenleigh) will take on Ian Law (Burleigh Heads). The semi and final will be played on Sunday at Musgrave Hill.

The Women’s Champion of Club Champion Pairs starts Sunday at Coolangatt­a.

TWEED Heads have moved a game clear atop the men’s Division 1 pennant ladder after defeating Broadbeach by nine shots on two rinks.

Wayne Turley was the big winner for Tweed by 12 shots over Kevin Anderson.

Musgrave Hill defeated Paradise Point to move into third, while Beenleigh had a big win over Tugun to claim fourth spot and South Tweed had their first win over Helensvale.

In the women’s Division 1 pennant Broadbeach, sneaked in by three shots over Helensvale winning on two rinks and Musgrave Hill overcame McKenzie Park by 25 shots on all three rinks. Tweed Heads had the bye in the latest round.

THE Australian Jackaroos have completed their UK tour after defeating Wales and then losing narrowly to England in their last test at Leamington Spa.

Congratula­tions to Burleigh’s Jake Fehlberg and director/father Grant Fehlberg who teamed up to play their 50th game for the Jackaroos para team during the tour.

BOLIVIA Millerick and Karen Goldsworth­y have won the Windsor Women’s Pairs tournament.
