GARDENING, GROWING FOOD AND ALL THINGS GREEN

- TALISA ELEY tali.eley@news.com.au

GREEN thumbs and ecowarriors will share their pride and joy at the Gold Coast’s biggest gardening expo next month.

The Botanical Bazaar will take over the Country Paradise Parklands at Nerang on August 4, offering a full day of information sessions with gardening experts, including Gold Logie nominee Costa Georgiadis from Gardening Australia.

Last year about 5000 people attended, with about 6000 expected next month.

The parklands will be bursting at the seams with more than 100 exhibitors, along with botanical art, plant stalls and animal farm.

It is the fourth year the event has been held on the Coast and event manager Stacey Panozzo said there was a new focus for 2019.

“We’ve expanded the festival to incorporate sustainable living education so there’s a lot of options for people who want to reduce their plastic, learn how to sort their waste and learn how to compost,” she said.

“Each year it really grows in popularity as people become more interested in learning how to grow their own food and become more sustainable at home.”

The festival will also include advice on native bushfoods and attracting native bees.

Kelly Pemberton from Palm Beach is among those looking forward to the event.

She said it was important for residents to get in touch with their food source.

“From an environmental perspective it cuts out transport costs, you’re eating fresh, nutritious food and it also improves that connection to nature which I think is great,” she said.

Tickets are on sale for the Botanical Bazaar at www.botanicalbazaar.com.au or at the gate.
