No jail for PM egg attack

-

A YOUNG Victorian woman who tried to egg the Prime Minister has discouraged others from attacking politicians, stating she’s had more attention than she ever wanted “and it’s not been great”.

Amber Paige Holt yesterday avoided jail when she was convicted of common assault and handed an 18-month community correction order at Albury Local Court. Magistrate Rodney Brender ordered the 25-year-old to perform 150 hours of community service and fined her $110 for possessing cannabis at the time. A MAN who allegedly stole mobile phones from people he met via dating apps has been granted bail as police issue a warning about online dating.

Michael Thomas Reed, 37, is accused of stealing phones from three people known to him in Cairns between June 6 and July 3. Police have alleged the Gordonvale man used dating apps including Tinder to meet the alleged victims.

He appeared briefly in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday charged with three counts of stealing following his arrest on Monday. A GOLD Coast councillor wants some of the city’s 14 electorate boundaries to be renamed to feature former mayors.

City planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell wants the existing divisional numbers to be dumped in favour of a new system with names, similar to those of state and federal electorates.

In a submission to the Local Government Change Commission, Cr Caldwell argues that the current numbering system is out of date and should be replaced.

In some instances, he has proposed naming the local government seats after former leaders including Lex Bell, Ray Stevens, Gary Baildon and Ron Clarke.

“The numbering in the draft boundary proposal has clear anomalies in the approach as it is a mix of retention of existing boundaries, adjusted boundaries, and entirely different geographical areas not relating to previous numbering, which I submit should be clarified in the finalisation of the boundaries,” said Cr Caldwell, who is the councillor representing Division 4.

“There is also an opportunity to reflect the geographic features and the names of former mayors in the names of the proposed areas.

“The names are specifically selected to not clash with state or federal seats.”
