FEUDING MAFS STARS TO FIGHT IT OUT IN RING

- EMILY HALLORAN emily.halloran@news.com.au

A CONTROVERSIAL Married At First Sight figure is relishing the chance to go toe to toe with a fellow cast member who has publicly declared he wants to punch him in the face.

Mike Gunner, 45, will take on Billy Vincent, 29, in a boxing match for mental health charity LIVIN, but make no mistake, the pair won’t be very charitable to each other in the ring following their heated clashes on the reality show.

Gunner told the Bulletin he is relishing the opportunity to show the younger man up ahead of their August 24 bout.

“I did hear he put a thing on his Instagram saying he wants to punch me in the face – but I take that as a compliment,” Gunner said.

“He’s taking it far more personally than I am. I feel as though he may have some insecurities that he may be looking to overcome and perhaps fighting me is some way he can do it.

“He’s coming in with a lot of confidence but I really hope he’s training hard.”

Gunner said he has been training “every day of the week” at Heartbreak Conditioning in Burleigh Heads to ensure he has the upper hand over Vincent, who is almost 15 years younger and works as a personal trainer and model.

Asked if he wants to win he said: “I have to win this”.

“I don’t want it to be viewed as a punch on,” he added.

“The focus is highlighting the charity. And also to show people you don’t need to eat meat to stay fit and healthy.

“You can be a middle-aged man and still beat a guy who is young enough to be your son and is a personal trainer.”

Roman Coates, who is the director of promoters BOX Hyphen, said he organised the fight after seeing the former contestants call each other out online.

“I approached a few people and asked if they wanted to take part in the event,” he said.

“Billy Vincent said ‘yeah if there’s one person I’d like to fight and punch in the face it’s Mike’.”

The fight will be held on August 24 at X Cargo in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, from 12.30pm to 5pm. Tickets from box-cargo.in-tix.com
