PLAYOFFS ARRIVE IN TIME FOR A ROLLER HIT

- with Joel McInnes

AFTER a long wait, finals basketball for the QBL returns to the Gold Coast.

Both Gold Coast Rollers teams finished in the top four and get the opportunity to progress through to the semi-finals in a one-game knockout tomorrow night.

After results all went the way for the Rollers, both teams get to reward the public with a huge crowd expected at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium.

The Lady Rollers have been simply fabulous since Arianna Moorer joined the team and have lost only two games since her arrival.

One of those was against Logan, their rival tomorrow. Logan played an aggressive game and roughed up the girls in the last match-up.

Gold Coast need to be ready to be physical and not be taken out of their offence. Jacqui Luna-Castro has continued her strong play and will be key for the Lady Rollers to get the victory.

Anthony Petrie’s return to the men’s team is what everyone wants to know about.

The veteran has been training the past two weeks in the hope he can provide some support for the team during the finals after a knee injury earlier in the season. With Petrie out, we’ve seen a great year for Gold Coast junior Jaydan Tom, who has been a huge presence on the court and his taken his game to the next level.

The Rollers have had a balanced attack the past few weeks, with different players stepping up at various times.

This should serve them well against USC Rip City, the only team the Rollers have lost to at home since returning to Carrara. Also this weekend sees the North Gold Coast Seahawks SBL boys play against Ipswich tonight. Get out and support your Gold Coast teams.
