HELENSVALE’S Nathan Rice and Andrew Howie have won the Champion of Club Champion Men’s Pairs after they defeated Tweed Heads pair Wayne Turley and Kurt Brown in the final.

In a high-quality Gold Coast Tweed District final at Musgrave Hill, the teams traded blows until it was 22all with two ends to play.

Rice and Howie picked up one to take the lead going into the last end and another shot on the final end handed them the title.

Turley and Brown bounced back in the afternoon when they teamed with Kelvin Kerkow and Max Jaffray to win the Champ of Champ Fours over Beenleigh’s Dean McWhinney, Dale McWhinney-Shillington, Graeme Shillington and Ken Ashford.

Trailing 7-9, the Tweed foursome put on eight unanswered shots to lead 15-9.

Beenleigh broke the drought to score two shots but that would be the only end they would win for the rest of the game with the final score ending up 23-11.

Both pairs and fours teams will now play the Gateway District champions with the winners progressing to the state finals in October.

The Gold Coast Tweed District Women’s Champion of Club Champion Singles is down to the final with Australian Jackaroo squadmates Lynsey Clarke and Chloe Stewart set to do battle.
