I can understand the concerns of the police union about the revolving door court system when it comes to young offenders. Why are the judges so reluctant to show these youths that every action has consequences? John Mc

With another large company going into voluntary liquidation (probably due to online shopping) in about 20 years people won’t have too many shops to walk into. Very sad for people who actually like to walk into shops and look, feel and try before you buy. R.R.

If Prince Harry had been Princess Harriet, would there have been so much fuss? RH

I feel for the police with the slap on the wrist from judges. Can someone advise me what ever happened to institutions such as “Borstal” and “Boys Town” better still Military Reservist? OCKY

Agree with Brad. Why have we all turned into whingers and blamers? Where has the wonderful Aussie spirit gone. Shaw, Robina

We have non-stop letters coming in from pretend-intelligent greenies about the climate change hoax, and endless letters from DJ Fraser bagging Scott Morrison, yawn, yawn. How about some more interesting letters from other regulars messrs P Campion, K Wade, Johnston, R Nightingale and others who entertain us with their interesting comments, and not the same old subject that has become so boring. Come on you other regulars get cracking, I want my $1.90’s worth. Nah, I’m only joking, I love my Bullie. Max local truckie.

What’s happening to the proposed new shopping centre at Nerang – Gilston Rd – next to “My Centre” – we have been waiting for 15 years for this, stopped many times by Harbour Town and Westfield Helensvale. We don’t shop at neither of them, and never will, maybe our local Labor MP here and Council could explain this to thousands of people that live here?

“This is extremely serious offending dealing in drugs” magistrate tells loser then gives the usual immediate parole. Outstanding.

I and everyone I have spoken to are of the same opinion, these young louts that commit crimes and are let off by the courts, if found guilty should be taken out the back and given a few strokes of the belt. This will take care of the punishment they did not get growing up, and then see how fast they are to reoffend, it’s time the law courts took a stand and stop wasting the

time of police and infuriating the public at large. D Tagaloa

Australia is being told to stop exporting/selling coal. But what everyone seems to be missing is who is importing/ buying the coal from Australia? Basic economics says if nobody buys it then it doesn’t sell. It will stay in the ground. The Watcher

Gee, the Aussie cricketers must be the toughest sportsmen ever, playing in the most polluted country on earth and none of them have collapsed or had a coughing fit. beeb.

How could anyone not agree with Ken Wade when he wrote we have bred a nation of people who lack showing respect to others including to our Prime Minister. With the baby boomers generation, if we didn’t like a politician we didn’t go around abusing them or throwing a tantrum in the newspapers and these greenie pests didn’t exist. Yes, Ken, we have bred a nation of arrogant whingers, especially the greenies who lack showing respect to others as they preach their climate change scam. The honesty, integrity and trustworthiness of the baby boomers generation has been replaced with arrogance, outspokenness and lack of respect to others. The importance of discipline today is lacking in the homes, schools and by police who have been pleading for more arresting powers for years to deal with youth crime that has made QLD the countries most violent state. John & Dee, Paradise Point.

To 51 – I am a ‘baby boomer’ so speak with knowledge of the era. Big families were common then, so to say we had it easy is nonsense. Dad worked two jobs to provide for five of us and this taught us the value of hard work. You can’t tar and feather everyone. Every generation has a combination of differing financial circumstances due to what life has dealt them no matter how hard they have worked. Hopefully your children fully appreciate your handouts but are still working hard themselves and not just putting their hand out. Selffunded retiree.

Our judiciary in Qld is an absolute joke! Criminals are given NO deterrent by suspended sentences, parole etc. They know the judiciary has been told not to send anyone to jail for the simple reason there is no room (they are 120% full!) Today’s (16/1) Bulletin is a perfect example. Lady dealing drugs was sentenced to 2.5 years prison “with immediate release on parole”. What deterrent is that? Why bother? Richard Gagie, Ormeau

Channel Seven. What is it you have against Qld as the home of cricket you promised to televise all BBL games. But so far five games every week have not been shown on free to air, all Qld games the past two weeks have been overridden by the biggest load of rubbish you could find. You should not lie to the public. Apologise. J W.
