AN ice addict threw petrol around his parents’ Gold Coast home and his mother’s feet before threatening to set them on fire, a court was told.

Elliott James Macquire then threatened to slit both of their throats.

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court yesterday to six charges including unlawful stalking, common assault and drugrelated offences.

His mother cried in court, but still provided a statement supporting her son.

Crown prosecutor Michael Mitchell said the horrifying attack began when Macquire turned up at his parents’ Paradise Point home demanding they pay for his taxi on November 30, 2018.

His father did but told Macquire they were not giving him any more money.

“He left but then came back with petrol and started pouring it on the floor and a small amount landed at his mother’s fee,” Mr Mitchell said. “He held a lighter in his hand and said: ‘I’m giong to burn you c***s.’ ”

The court was told Macquire’s mother struggled with him and managed to get the petrol away and hid it and locked it in a cupboard.

Mr Mitchell said Macquire then threatened to slit their throats if they went to police.

The pair then agreed Macquire could stay at the couple’s granny flat. The next morning Macquire pushed his mother while they were talking.

Mr Mitchell said Macquire’s mother provided a victim impact statement.

“It details the effects the drug addiction had on her and her family and also sets out the hopes that she has for her son and her desire to assist in rehabilitation,” he said.

Judge Katherine McGinness adjourned her decision on sentence until tomorrow.
