Sense of entitlement poor reflection on a generation

-

PETE the meat (Gold Coast Bulletin, 23/1) writes; the Baby Boomers think they worked hard, invested their money, watched their homes quadruple in value and now indulge themselves failing to pass on their good fortune as their kids live in poverty, what a legacy!

Let me guess Pete.

Your parents clothed and fed you. They paid for your education to prepare you for life, giving you the tools so you could make your own way and fortune as they did.

What they have for their old age they earned and have already shared with you along the way.

I suggest your sense of entitlement is misplaced.

What your parents have earned or accrued is theirs to spend or distribute as they see fit.

Given your early support and the requisite tools to achieve, your current position is your own responsibility.

Tough? It’s a tough world as we “Baby Boomers” found in our day but then we were a generation of risk takers unlike our risk adverse society and government today.

We had our times of struggle too, but need was a good incentive to do better.

We didn’t expect to be left the family fortune, literally waiting for our parents to die.

What incentive is there in that let alone the predatory implications?

Be grateful for what your parents did give you and make better use of the tools that came along with it.

Take responsibility for your own life and leave your parents to enjoy the few years they have left.

After all, despite your misplaced sense of entitlement, theirs is genuine because they actually earned it.
