FIVE KIDS HELD FOR CRIMINAL RAMPAGE

FOUR teenagers from the north end of the Gold Coast and Logan and a 12year-old have been arrested over the border for an alleged crime spree that ended in a high-speed crash.

Police allege that on February 24 the group went to a Jonson St shop in Byron Bay and stole goods, before a teenage girl punched an employee.

They then ran 200m down the road and stole from a grocery store and threatened an employee with a knife about 12pm.

It will be further alleged the group went to a shopping centre in Tweed Heads South and allegedly stole items from a store before threatenin­g an employee with a knife.

Four days later, Tweed Heads police saw a black Audi, believed to be stolen, travelling south on the M1 near Kingscliff.

A pursuit started and the Audi crashed a short time later.

The driver – a 14-yearold boy – and passenger – a 12-year-old boy – were arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for observatio­n before being transporte­d to Tweed Heads Police Station.

The three other teenagers – a 16-year-old youth, and two girls aged 14 and 15 – were found in a makeshift campsite in the Kingscliff area on Saturday, February 29.

Police seized weapons, property and clothing believed to be stolen.

All five teenagers were charged with a total of 21 offences.

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with robbery in company, two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon, larceny and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner. She was refused bail to face a children’s court today.

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, receive property stolen outside NSW and possess prohibited drug. She was granted conditiona­l bail to face a children’s court later this month.

A 16-year-old youth has been charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner. He was granted conditiona­l bail to face a children’s court later this month.
