Mum faces child sex charges

- LEA EMERY

A GOLD COAST mother sent sexually suggestive messages to a 13-year-old boy before allegedly seducing and sexually abusing him, a court was told.

The mum, who was 35 at the time, also allegedly contacted the boy’s friends through Instagram after he and his parents had severed contact with her.

The mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty in the Southport District Court to three counts of indecent treatment of a child and one count of carnal knowledge of a child.

Crown prosecutor Jessica Guy read out text messages, which began in January 2017, the mum allegedly sent the boy, to the court.

They included the woman sending a picture of her in a Gstring and singlet, demands for the boy, who has Asperger’s, to show he cared and confessions of love, the court was told.

“OMG, I love your face, sweet dreams tonight beautiful, big kisses,” one allegedly read.

Another text was allegedly accompanied by a photo of the woman and read: “Thought I would be kind and give you sweet dreams since you can’t see my stories anymore”.

Ms Guy said the woman had met the boy after befriending the boy’s mother on a single parents Facebook group in 2012. The court was told the boy went to stay with the woman after an appointment with a psychologist went badly on February 22, 2017.

The boy’s mum agreed the boy could stay with the woman for a few days but when she went to pick him up the boy refused to leave, it is alleged.

Ms Guy said the boy lived with the woman for about a month and during that time she sexually abused him on two occasions including having sex with him and touching him inappropriately.

She said the family convinced the boy to come home in late March and then found the suggestive messages on the boy’s phone. Ms Guy said the woman denied the abuse when police spoke to her.

The trial continues.
