SHOPPERS PREPARE FOR DAYS IN LOO

-

GOLD Coast Health staff have been told to get their flu shots early so that they’re not fighting the deadly influenza when the coronavirus hits the city.

Gold Coast University Hospital

workers say they were told at a staff meeting on Monday that a spike in coronavirus patients was predicted to coincide with the winter flu season. As a 10th person was confirmed with coronavirus yesterday, shoppers were emptying toilet paper shelves in Gold Coast supermarkets (left) in anticipation of an outbreak.

GOLD Coast shoppers were posting photos of empty toilet paper shelves in supermarkets last night as concerns about a coronavirus outbreak increased.

This Facebook photo, taken after dinner, showed stocks thinning out at Woolworths in Runaway Bay.

However, spokespeople from supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths urged customers not to panic.

“Coles has increased the number of deliveries to stores this week to improve availability on popular products, such as long-life pantry staples and healthcare items and our teams are working hard to fill the shelves as quickly as possible,” a spokesperson said.

A Woolworths spokesman said: “We’ve seen a sharp increase in demand for long-life pantry items and household staples in recent days, which has led to partial stock shortages across some of our stores.

“We’ve been working closely with our suppliers to ramp up deliveries and production to maintain stock availability for our customers.”
