SUV KEY TO INVESTIGATION
DETECTIVES have release footage of an SUV that pulled up in front of Martin Shiels Park about the time Shane Ross and Cameron Martin were murdered.
Investigators believe the people in the SUV seen pulling a U-turn and stopping in front of the Burleigh Heads park on Friday, October 18, at 8.18pm last year, could shed light on the slaying of the Monstr Clothing business partners.
Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said police were calling on the community to come forward with information to help solve the case.
“It’s been a painstaking and complex investigation,” he said. “We’re in the process of making an application for a reward … anyone out there with information may be in a position to collect that reward if they come forward.
“(The SUV) was seen to do a U-turn on Tallebudgera Creek Rd. It was seen to be heading inbound towards Burleigh. It has done a Uturn and pulled up outside of Martin Shiels Park and it has been parked there.
“It was a short distance from there that the incident occurred where Shane Ross was murdered and about a kilometre from the vehicle crash where Cameron died.
“We are very keen to hear from anyone who may be able to assist us with who owns that vehicle, who was in that vehicle, or any other information from that night around that time. We’re hoping this vision and the plea from the families will prompt someone to come forward.
“You can come directly to the local police, or if you feel that you can’t do that you can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.”
He said a “cone of silence” was hampering investigators.
“I think all murders are quite difficult to solve. The fact that this had two different crime scenes, both men have got complex backgrounds and that makes things very hard for us.
“There is a cone of silence among some of those friendships and again it makes it quite difficult and again I encourage those people who really can’t step forward in public, to come forward anonymously to Crime Stoppers or come forward and seek some sort of assistance from us to further the investigation.”
