SUPPORT FOR NEEDY FOLLOWS A HOT TIP

- ELIZA REILLY

IT’S the ultimate office tipping competition with a cause.

For more than a decade now, employees of Condev Construction have been putting their tipping prowess on the line for the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the Rugby World Cup.

Employees pay a $50 entry fee that goes towards charitable arm, Condev Care, in exchange for the chance to win big.

It’s estimated more than $15,000 has been raised for charity as a result of the competition, with current fundraising efforts targeted at launching a housing project for disadvantaged people on the Gold Coast.

One man you should be hassling for Super Rugby tips is Andrew Clancy.

Clancy is a previous winner and formidable tipster, having won his way to the 2015 England World Cup on the back of a sizeable final margin.

“There were a few rounds when I took a punt and picked an upset which happened to come off which put me a few points up,” Clancy said.

“I look at past wins and losses for each team and take a punt from there but I try and pick one or two upsets a round.

“Not supporting a team in the league makes it a bit easier to go with my head and think about it.

“There is a bit of prestige in winning and we have a whole board room dedicated to the World Cup and the

Wallabies. There’s always a bit of banter when it’s close at the end of the season and a few mind games as you try to figure out whether they’re tipping the favourite or an upset.”

Even if he isn’t victorious, Clancy is still likely to join more than 30 of his colleagues at the 2023 France World Cup as the office makes the quadrennial pilgrimage overseas.

The office also partakes in NRL and AFL tipping competitions, with $500 on the line for the winner of each of these.

News Corp launched tips.com.au, Australia’s newest and biggest footy tipping game last month.

The NRL and AFL competition is an inclusive game that can be played by kids, families, in offices, pubs and clubs.

It comes with a cash prize of $50,000 for the winner of each code, plus a $1 million prize if you can achieve the streak – picking the winner and margin of a chosen marquee game each week in both AFL and NRL.
