REMEMBER WHEN

-

TWO teenage bandits attacked a female bus driver during a brazen robbery at Arundel.

In this, the latest in a spate of Gold Coast bus robberies, the youths reportedly shoved the driver before fleeing with less than $100.

Police district duty officer Sergeant Justin Claridge said the teenagers had been travelling on the bus for about two hours when they asked the driver to pull over in Arundel about 6.30pm.

“They asked her to stop along Greenacre Drive then basically assaulted her and took the takings from the bus route,” he said.

“They didn’t hit her but she was pushed forward in her seat.

“There was definitely less than $100 in the cash box and they took that. Some of the passengers tried to follow them but it was very dark.”

Passenger Matthew Lee, 21, was one of the would-be heroes.

“I was sitting on the back seat of the bus reading a book and the two kids were sitting in front of me,” said the Pacific Pines resident.

“They were ‘gangsta’ looking kids, trying to look tough.

“They wouldn’t have been older than 16. They were standing at the front of the bus and asked the driver to stop and when she did they shoved her and grabbed the money box.

“I was worried they might have hit her, because they’d been mucking around punching each other’s hands before that.

“I went to the end of the street with another man from the bus but we couldn’t find them. Unfortunately these days it’s (robberies) expected, all the teenagers are acting tough.”
