Iconic Burleigh eatery on a roll with takeaway

- CHANTAY LOGAN

A RICK Shores Moreton Bay bug roll with a side of sun, sand and barrelling surf – it’s got to be the Gold Coast’s most eponymous dining experience.

Devotees needn’t miss out on their fix. While many of our high-end restaurants have chosen to pause trade, the Burleigh Heads beachfront eatery, once voted Queensland’s best by delicious, has joined the takeaway revolution.

Rick Shores co-owner Nick Woodward said they had catered romantic picnics on Burleigh

Hill and balconies in Broadbeach.

“By staying open with all the precautions in place, we can keep our staff safe, keep staff working and support our suppliers who are also feeling the impact on our industry,” he said.

“We know people love our food and the local community has always supported us, so we hope to keep bringing our food to them, just in their homes.”

While it was the continued supply of iconic bug rolls that sparked the biggest online reaction, Rick’s Tuk Shop is full of Pan-Asian favourites.

“Apart from the usual suspects, the new chicken massaman curry; crispy octopus; and pork belly pad Thai are proving popular,” Mr Woodward said.

“Being a style of cuisine very renowned for takeaway, it hasn’t been too much of a stretch to adapt the menu. Each dish is still obviously Rick Shores.”

While fine-dining service may be off the menu for now, Mr Woodward said they’d be happy to bring pick-up orders out to cars.

“Our team is taking many precautions for our safety and for yours, so we would remind anyone coming down to support us to please be safe and keep to social distancing if there are people ordering in front of you,” he said.
