TUTORS OFFER PARENT EDUCATORS A HAND

A GOLD Coast firm says it is giving parents help when facing the prospect of teaching their children at home in the wake of the coronaviru­s outbreak.

A Team Tuition says it has helped educate 700,000 students across Australia and has recorded a massive spike in interest as learning moves online.

Owner Hayden McEvoy said demand had been “absolutely mental” and the company had been putting

● Establish a special distractio­n-free learning space, like an office.

● Limit the amount of change in the learning schedule, stick to lunch times and break times.

● Stay connected, encourage online chats with the class and group forums.

● Have a calm, task-driven approach to each lesson.

on more tutors or providing more hours to out-of-work university students to keep up.

“We are now running at the capacity of around 100 tutors.”

A Team Tuition is described as a hybrid of tutoring mentoring and academic strategy.

Mr McEvoy’s advice to parents looking to teach at home for the short-term is to break through the distractio­ns.

“Teaching at home can be great and there are plenty of resources out there to help. Tutors also work with schools to help add to the support and work as that link between the school and home.

“Ultimately it is about creating a distractio­n-free zone and establishi­ng a mindset to achieve,” Mr McEvoy told the Bulletin.

The company was founded by Mr McEvoy in 2010.

A struggling student himself in his first years of high school, he used the skills he learnt during his sports training to drive his education.
