Rollers coach busy despite lockdown

- DOUBLE DRIBBLE with Joel McInnes

BASKETBALL ON THE GOLD COAST: WHAT’S THE LATEST?

With coronavirus restrictions starting to be lifted, there is a chance that community sport will return in the next few months.

What that looks like remains to be seen but even going down to the park to get some shots up isn’t far away.

KNOWING CASSIE DOVER

This week’s interview is with Cassie Dover, who led the Lady Rollers to the QBL grand final in her rookie season as head coach.

Cassie played as a Gold Coast junior and is heavily involved with the local development programs.

How have you been coping with the coronavirus shutdown regarding basketball?

I’m missing it a lot, however I’m hopeful that we will be returning soon.

I’m missing seeing everyone!

Have you stayed in with the Lady Rollers?

Yes, I’ve been on messenger groups, everyone is managing as best they can. During your time as a player was there some advice that

really stuck with you over the years?

I was lucky to pick up many great things from coaches over the years, probably that the foundations of development are what make the difference. Don’t try to get better than someone else, just keep lifting your own standard.

Is there anything you are doing to help regarding juniors over the break?

I’ve got my own business, Fortitude (Training Academy) and I’m mentoring players over this time, giving them drills to do at home.

Any advice for juniors out there during this time?

All the work you do when no one’s watching will keep you ready for when we return.
