BAR AUCTIONS OFF PARTY FOR TEN

- RYAN KEEN

A GLITTER Strip barrestaurant with capacity for 500 is auctioning off its sole Saturday night table for 10 to the highest bidder.

White Rhino Bar & Eats in Surfers Paradise ran a competition online last week to give the table away in a post which went viral and attracted 3000 entries.

Gold Coaster Rochelle Prosper won, piling in with nine friends to have the hotspot to themselves along with some wait staff and the regular covers group 42 Band playing hits.

White Rhino Bar & Eats spokesman Matt Keegan said it had been so successful the venue would do a repeat and the table would now be auctioned off to the highest bidder who would get their price in food and drinks.

“We had a jump in takeaway orders and also in people booking the venue for the coming weeks.

“Our sittings are booked out for the next couple of weeks.”

White Rhino livestreamed Saturday night’s reopening party and Mr Keegan said the auction for this Saturday’s table would start today.

“Because of the demand that is obviously there we are to be blocking out the same experience,” he said.

“We will auction off to a group of 10 – people get the band and the venue to themselves.

“Whatever total you bid, you will get back on spend.”

Mr Keegan said he hoped the Palaszczuk State Government would look at relaxing the 10-patron rule for large venues like White Rhino which also has al fresco areas.

“Venues with 40 square metres can have 10 people, and venues with 1000 square metres can have 10.

“That does not make any sense.”
