JAIGANTIC PLANS

Departing Titans star declares his best is yet to come

- ED JACKSON

OUTGOING Gold Coast forward Jai Arrow has vowed to sign off in style and make 2020 his best NRL campaign with the Titans.

The Queensland representative will join South Sydney on a rich deal at season’s end, but has dismissed any talk he’s just seeing out his time at the struggling Titans. “I’m the sort of person, I’m going to put everything into it,” Arrow said.

“THE Hound” has the bark to match his bite, with Titans winger Phillip Sami saying a stint at fullback has unlocked the on-field talk he feels has been missing from his game.

Sami, 22, was an impressive early-season performer for the Titans at fullback, deputising for the injured AJ Brimson, but has been rumoured to be shifting back to the wing for Friday night’s clash with the Cowboys in Townsville.

Regardless of his position, Sami says he has learnt a lot from his stint at the back.

Among his key takeaways was the need to increase his workload and support play, as well as the importance of onfield communication as one of the team’s senior players.

“Playing fullback was definitely tough – there is a lot more running than on the wing, that is for sure,” the 44game NRL player said.

“It made me realise that wherever I end up playing, I can always do more in my game to help out with talk and organising numbers.

“When you are at the back, it is tough, and you definitely need your mates helping you out. That is something that I have definitely taken out of playing fullback.

“I want to set the energy with the team with my talk and talk to my edge players and whoever I am playing with.”
