Bowl up safely as club doors reopen

- with Brett Wilkie ON THE GREENS

FOLLOWING the Queensland State Government announcing Stage 2 easing of restrictions regarding COVID-19, Bowls Queensland is part of an Industry COVID Safe plan which covers affiliated bowls clubs in Queensland.

Bowls Queensland forms part of the Industry COVID Safe plan created by the

QSport outdoor sport group and the Queensland Sport and Recreation Department, approved by the Queensland chief health officer last Friday night.

This allows clubs to have up to 20 people training or rolling up on each of their greens at the same time.

Using a maximum of five rinks on each green, there must be a 2m gap between rinks and no more than four people on a rink.

Stage 2 of the return to sport only includes training with competition set to return in Stage 3 of the easing of restrictions in Queensland.

This means clubs can only allow training or roll ups at this point in time.

Clubs and bowlers will still need to follow recommendations regarding hygiene, social distancing and cleaning/ sanitation etc.

It is important that people do not congregate before or after training.

Clubs Queensland, along with the Queensland Hotels Association and the RSL & Services Clubs Association, have developed an Industry COVID Safe plan for the inside operations of clubs, which has also been approved by the CHO.

This enables clubs to potentially have multiple gatherings of 20 people within the club in Stage 2, so long as the square metreage of the club allows this to be approved.

Patrons must be seated adhering to social-distancing rules with table service only allowed to occur in Stage 2.

Many clubs across the Coast have now opened their doors for the first time since being asked to close them in late March.

This is a welcome easing of restrictions for clubs to start operating again, although they still will have to maintain procedures in place to keep people safe.

The Gold Coast Tweed District is looking at a potential start of its annual Men’s Pennant competition on Saturday, August 1, closely followed by Ladies Pennant on Friday, August 7.

THIS IS A WELCOME EASING OF RESTRICTIONS FOR CLUBS TO START OPERATING AGAIN, ALTHOUGH THEY STILL WILL HAVE TO MAINTAIN PROCEDURES
