Suns partner with Coast’s DV charity
THE Gold Coast Suns have announced a new partnership with a charity supporting Australian families devastated by domestic violence.
The new major charity partner is RizeUp Australia, a Gold Coast organisation that has expanded from Queensland across the nation.
The joint effort by RizeUp and the Suns will drive awareness for domestic and family violence prevention and help fund practical support for struggling families.
RizeUp has helped 1000 families restart their lives and the organisation helped 67 families with 109 children on the Coast in the past year.
Suns chief executive Mark Evans made the announcement yesterday while helping RizeUp set up a home for an at-risk family.
“I’m delighted to announce our partnership with a Gold Coast-founded charity, RizeUp Australia, who do amazing work in helping people restart their lives as they move away from a violent situation,” he said.
“We know there is much more to do in terms of education around domestic and family violence, but the most critical need now is to make sure people have a safe place to live.”
RizeUp founder and CEO Nicolle Edwards said: “We are thrilled today to be celebrating not only our partnership with the Gold Coast Suns but also marking the 1000th family home that we’ve created for a very deserving and courageous family who have left everything behind to start again.”
The first initiative of the partnership is Change 5000, which will encourage 5000 people to donate $2 per week to support RizeUp’s charity work.
Suns supporters have been urged to donate or support the charity however possible, including by volunteering.
