FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVE

-

IT’S not all doom and gloom out there.

Certainly there is plenty of that everywhere you turn from the glum economy to the fear of JobKeeper and other government stimulus running out come September.

It is also illogical out there – take the very good point Surfers Paradise rebel restaurateur Nuccia Fusco makes in today’s newspaper, questioning why a stadium can have 10,000 fans this weekend but an eatery can’t have more than 20 per “defined area”.

It is also uncertain out there – the State Government’s much-anticipated July 10 border reopening plan, as stated in stage three of its recovery road map, continues to be plagued by the asterisk of being “subject to further planning and review”.

But there are also glimmers of hope and some heartening activity.

In today’s newspaper there are articles reflecting the ongoing activity of a city and economy keeping on as best it can.

So best wishes must go towards the operators of the space at Nobby Beach formerly occupied by restaurateur Simon Gloftis’ Hellenika. It will now be reborn as Miss Mee by those behind the popular Burleigh establishment Justin Lane.

Back up the highway at Pacific Fair, the renowned Gold Coast shopping mall has welcomed well-regarded patisserie brand Le Bon Choix.

From Friday, Sea World, the first of the Gold Coast’s many and popular theme parks, reopens its doors to the public as Village Roadshow begins its battle back from the depths of the pandemic shutdown.

At Star Gold Coast, another 400 staff have been brought back as it further reopens the Broadbeach Island complex.

Much more needs to be done to ensure the Gold Coast visitor stream is turned back on – and top of agenda should be the border reopening particularly to NSW, despite the emerging surge in cases in Victoria, and also with our neighbours NZ, who need us as much as we need them right now.
