I’VE BIN GLAMMING IT UP

- EMILY HALLORAN emily.halloran@news.com.au

MANY people awaken hurriedly to the sound of the rubbish truck and frantically pull the bin out to the kerb in their pyjamas.

The weekly ‘bin dash’ is not glamorous for many, but it is for Melissa Pearce of Pimpama who rolls out her bin weekly glammed up and dressed to the nines.

Ms Pearce was made redundant when the coronavirus pandemic hit hard in March after eight years working in communications for Queensland Airports Limited.

While curled up on the couch looking for her next opportunity, she came up with a fun reason to get made-up – and she’s bin doing it every week since.

“I had gone from living a life where I would get up and get dressed and go to work every day,” she said.

“All of a sudden (I’m) at home, not doing anything, and staying in pyjamas or active wear all day.

“One day was bin day and

I thought ‘I haven’t put any make-up on or worn a dress in a while, why not for a bit of fun’?”

Ms Pearce glammed herself up and went outdoors, set up a tripod and took a photo posed up with her bin.

One of her photos was captioned: “Another long romantic stroll down the driveway on my favourite day of the week #binfashion #showusyabins #binresponsibly.”

She said her friends and family have loved the photos and has since posted a dozen on her social media accounts.

“I kept going because every week my friends would reach out to me and say ‘This is so fantastic, this is my weekly laugh’.

“Which was really nice with everything going on at the moment,” she said.

She said she started it “purely to give myself a laugh but more importantly bring a bit of lightheartedness to what’s been a pretty challenging time for everybody”.
