is open for business again, though at least a month too late. The Premier and her loyal band of worshippers think she is a hero. Thank God the adults among us realise what damage she has done to our beautiful state. The election can’t come quick enough. RODNEY WATSON SURFERS PARADISE

Thank you to Peter Campion for trying to uncover the renewable energy rorts in this country. One day the rich investors will be uncovered, along with their crooked political supporters. Shano backs you up too.

Hallelujah! As from this Friday (3/7), “Showtime” begins, as our Premier smiled big-time while announcing her decision to implement Stage 3 restrictions and re-open our Queensland border, along with some restrictions.

I am a tad disappointed with our ScoMo referring to our Premier as “grandslamming” her position in the upcoming election with her decision. This is a bit unfair, as the restrictions had (a week early) to be lifted at some point.

Annastacia Palaszczuk has demonstrated stellar leadership skills the past few months protecting Queenslanders from a second surge of coronavirus and containing the same, despite constant criticism from the opposing government and some of the angry public.

I am a tad concerned within the public arena about whether some of the revellers who will patronise the old venues, such as the pubs and casinos (after a pint or two), will remain responsible regarding social distancing. Fingers and toes crossed with this one!

Unfortunately, Murphy’s Law may apply as, although Queensland has reached almost full containment of this current coronavirus, we now have to be aware of a new virus (swine flu) originating in China, which may have the potential to infect humans and cause a rollover pandemic.

Although this is currently no reason to be alarmed or worrisome, it is unwise to become like a chameleon (ostrich burying our heads in the sand) at the minute.

I sometimes wonder if our gods above are trying to relay important reminders for our humankind to survive on this physical planet! PAM DELAHUNTY-HUNTER BIGGERA WATERS.

Australia’s Reserve Bank has now endorsed a warning that unless international climate policies are made drastically more ambitious, the disruption under the trajectory of climate change will cause global GDP to fall by 25 per cent by 2100.

The Reserve Bank is one of 66 central banks – including in Japan, Britain and China (yes, China) – growing increasingly alarmed at the financial crisis coming our way.

While the Morrison Government trembles at the thought of the Paris Agreement’s goal of achieving zero net carbon emissions by 2050, economist Ross Garnaut (as one example) foresees that, if we rise to the challenge of climate change, we “will emerge as a global superpower in energy, low-carbon industry and absorption of carbon in the landscape”.

Please wake up Australia. ANDREW STIMSON UPPER COOMERA

Now I better understand the Liberal Party. In his new book, Christopher Pyne tells us it’s like the solar system. The prime minister is the sun and the ministers are the planets.

Under Howard, Pyne reckons he was Pluto on the outer, then under Abbott and Turnbull he got closer to the sun and become akin to Mercury.

So in this version of politics you go round and round in circles, everything stays in its place, the people are kept in the dark and not much changes.

There is an old saying, “give them an inch and they will take a mile”. Our border opens on July 10 to all except Victoria, and we go to recovery stage 3 on Friday.

There will be a collective sigh of relief from businesses as they take a major step forward, and the community will welcome the additional freedom.

The COVID-19 battle is now firmly engaged in the long-awaited second front of economic recovery.

Here in Queensland, good management and a little luck has kept our caseload down. We are told, on a daily basis, that there are no new cases in the state. What is often missing is the word “detected”

following the word “cases’’.

Whatever the reasons for the spike in Victoria, you can bet that complacency and taking the extra mile is involved.

The result is that many communities in Melbourne are back in lockdown, starting from scratch.

We should learn from this. There will be undetected cases out there. Everyone, including you and me, is a potential carrier.

Our only safeguards remain social distancing and personal hygiene. such as washing our hands regularly and keeping multiple contact surfaces clean.

We will live in this new normal for some time and cannot afford to become complacent.

There is a faceless killer out there. A killer that can take a life, as well as destroy our economy and lifestyle.

This is not over, and we will live with risk.

Provided that we take responsibility and maintain our safeguards, that risk is minimised as we move forward on two fronts to achieve some semblance of normal.

At least Queensland has a leader that has the guts to stand up against ScoMo, something the rest of his followers lacked the intestinal fortitude to do.

Time will tell that she stood up for “all” Queenslanders and not just a select few.
