Robina job plan firm

-

THE Queensland Government is standing firm on its decision to use a corporate office at Robina instead of the Gold Coast CBD as a working station for public servants.

Member for Southport Rob Molhoek last week criticised Treasurer Cameron Dick’s decision to house about 100 public servants, who would normally commute to Brisbane at a Robina office, saying Southport “made more sense”.

Mr Molhoek said the CBD had better public transport and parking and was already home to thousands of public servants.

“The Southport CBD has been nominated as a preferred location for State Government activities and Southport has been designated as the official CBD of the Gold Coast in the City Plan,” Mr Molhoek said.

“The State Government spent $600 million extending the light rail to Helensvale and millions into Cohort at Parklands as a venture to attract businesses in there, but it’s still under-utilised.”

A spokeswoman for the Treasurer said there was already a distributed work centre at Eastside Building in Robina.

About 100 workers who lived on the Gold Coast and commuted to Brisbane could nominate to work from the Robina centre, which would reduce public transport use and improve social distancing.
