A BLAZE that ripped through a home southwest of Sydney on Sunday night killed a fivemonth-old baby girl and injured four others in what authorities have described as a “tragic” incident.

Emergency services were called to a property on Avon Dam Rd, Bargo, just before 6.30pm and fire crews worked to bring the blaze under control. Police said the body of a baby girl was found inside, reportedly still inside her bassinet.

Neighbour’s told 7 News they heard what sounded like an explosion and screams coming from the home and were greeted by enormous flames when they rushed over to help.

They grabbed garden hoses and tried to help fire crews battle the blaze but the home was destroyed.

Paramedics treated a 79year-old woman and 57-yearold man, believed to be the little girl’s grandparents, for smoke inhalation and lacerations.

A 27-year-old woman, believed to be the baby’s mother, was treated for shock.

They were taken to Campbelltown Hospital in a stable condition.

An 18-month-old boy, who appeared uninjured, was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

It is understood a pet dog was rescued from inside the home.
