MYSTERY surrounded the discovery of a 27-year-old Logan man found dead behind the wheel of a silver HSV ClubSport at Mt Tamborine.

The man’s body was discovered at 2.50am by a passing motorist who noticed the headlights as he drove along Mt Tamborine Rd.

The car had slid about 10m from the roadway and was partially concealed by trees.

Initially it was thought the man had become the region’s 41st road fatality this year. But as police arrived it became clear they were not treating this like any other traffic accident.

Instead of the Forensic Crash Unit, carloads of detectives and crime scene officers scoured the area for evidence.

Police quickly declared it a crime scene and even searched the slope above the road for clues.

At the scene, officers indicated a number of inconsistencies that led them to believe it might not have been an accident:

The car barely had any damage, yet the driver’s injuries were fatal.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt.

There were no skid marks or other signs to show the driver had taken evasive action to avoid the collision.

There was nothing to indicate the man might have been travelling at speed before leaving the road.

Police believed the car came to a stop at an “unnatural angle”, indicating the car might not have just slid off the road, but might been pushed.

Dead at the wheel was Logan man Adrian Nolan. Two men were convicted in relation to Nolan’s death in mid-2009
