Frisby’s filly set to strike

-

QUEENSLAND Oaks winner Jenden Strike will back up against the “boys” in Saturday night’s Group 2 South-East Derby at Albion Park.

Trainer Chris Frisby said his much-improved filly had come through the Oaks win “super well” and he had learnt from history to seize the moment.

“I had Major Occasion run second in the Oaks up here two years ago and have always regretted not running her in the Derby a week after, I think she’d have given it a shake she was going that well,” he said.

“I know there will be a few smart colts in this Derby, but we’re up here, she’s never gone better and we’re going to give it a crack.”

Jenden Strike’s win continued her remarkable rise this season.

“She’s been a really pleasant surprise because we never thought she was

Frisby said.

“We only took her down to Victoria at the start of the year because we were going with Our Uncle Sam for the big races and she was eligible for some Vicbred bonuses.

“She came out and ran third in a heat of the Victoria Oaks and went terrific.”

Jenden Strike was also placed in a heat of the NSW Oaks and ran sixth in the final.

She’s one of “a dozen or so” Frisby and his son, Anthony, took from their Bathurst base to campaign through winter.

The team includes their stable star Our Uncle Sam, a Melbourne Inter Dominion runner-up at his prime, who will race at Albion Park next Saturday.

Frisby also has high hopes for a pair of two-year-olds, Our Uncle Dan and He Aint Fakin. that good,”
