Emotions get better of Patton

-

HAWTHORN forward Jonathan Patton says he couldn’t control his emotions after suffering a hamstring injury last Friday which looks set to sideline the luckless big man for a month.

Playing just his fourth game for the Hawks, and first since Round 3, Patton limped off after just 10 minutes against Collingwood and broke down in tears on the bench.

The No.1 draft pick in 2011, Patton has played just 93 games across eight seasons blighted by injury, including three knee reconstructions.

He missed the two games before Friday’s loss after a burn on his foot got infected.

“It was a bit of a whirlwind when I got to the bench,” he said. “I really worked myself up for the game on Friday night.

“I went in already with a lot of emotion, and so to have that happen in the first 10 minutes was pretty frustrating. I couldn’t really control myself on the bench.

“It was a tough night, but I’m feeling a lot better.”
