GOLD Coast tennis star Sam Stosur and her partner Liz have welcomed their first child, baby Genevieve, into the world. The US Open winner has revealed the “whirlwind” arrival of “Evie” a month ago has been “one of the most exciting and happy times of my life”.

GOLD Coast tennis star Sam Stosur has revealed she’s a new mum in surprise social media posts almost a month after the birth of her “beautiful little girl”.

Stosur took to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on Monday night to announce her partner Liz had given birth to baby Genevieve, or “Evie” for short.

“Life in lockdown during coronavirus has been challenging in many ways but personally it’s been one of the most exciting and happy times of my life,’ she said. “On the 16th of June, my partner Liz gave birth to our beautiful little girl, Genevieve.

“It has been a whirlwind time but we could not imagine life without her now.”

Stosur wrote that Liz and Evie were doing well and it was amazing to be home with the pair.

“We are absolutely in love with this little bundle and rolling with the happy chaos,” she said.

“We can’t wait for what’s to come and to watch little

Evie grow up … Although not too quickly we hope!”

The heartwarming announcement quickly racked up thousands of reactions across the different platforms.

Tennis Australia wished the couple all the best on Instagram: “Congratulations Sam and Liz on the safe arrival of beautiful Evie, with love from the tennis family.”

Other wellwishers included Lleyton Hewitt’s former coach Roger Rasheed, retired tennis pro Casey Dellacqua and rising Aussie pro

Priscilla Hon. Stosur has racked up almost $27 million in prizemoney during a career beginning way back in 1999.

Her achievements on the court include the US Open singles title and three Grand Slam doubles crowns.

Late last year, as Stosur entered her 22nd year on the women’s international tour, she said she still wanted to play at the top level of the sport.

“I don’t see myself stopping,” she said at the time.

“I know (retirement) is out there on the horizon but I want to keep playing for as long as I can. I haven’t set a date or anything like that.

“I do think on my day I’m still capable of beating anyone out there and they are the people I most enjoy playing – higher ranked players on a big court and you can just enjoy those moments.”

Stosur said she still enjoyed being a professional tennis player, was not phased by the travel and craved match-ups against top players on the biggest stages.

She was not able to be contacted for comment at time of publication.
