Latest Broc to take on mount

-

ALL Saints High School teenager Broc Feeney will realise a lifelong dream this year when he teams up with 2010 Supercars champion James Courtney at the Bathurst 1000.

Feeney, 17, will make his main-game V8 debut by teaming with Courtney, who was third in the Great Race last year. The pair will share duties in the No.44 Ford Mustang.

Feeney, the reigning Super3 champion, made his Super2 debut in Adelaide this year and Wednesday’s announcement continues his rapid ascension of the Australian motorsport ladder.

“It’s amazing to have the chance to compete in the Bathurst 1000,” Feeney said.

“Like most kids, growing up I would sit down on the couch to watch the race and always dreamt of being in it, so to have this opportunity is unbelievable.

“And to do it in such a competitive car and with a driver as successful as JC is incredible.

“To now be able to race the Mustang in one of the biggest races in the world is surreal. I’m still pinching myself and I absolutely cannot wait to get to the mountain in October.”

Coincidentally, Feeney has already competed – and won – at Mount Panorama this year, claiming victory in the Invitational class at the Bathurst 12 Hour, driving a Ford Mustang MARC in early February.

With the Supercars season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the only confirmed endurance race on the calendar is the Bathurst 1000, which takes place October 8-11.

Turning 18 a week after the Great Race, Feeney is set to join a shortlist of drivers who make their debut 1000 debut before their 18th birthday.

Courtney, 40, looks forward to bringing him up to speed.

“Broc has had an incredible rise through the ranks of Australian motorsport, so to team up with him at Boost Mobile Racing for Bathurst is pretty exciting for both of us,” he said.

“He’s only been racing cars for a few years but he’s won in just about everything he’s ever driven, which speaks to his talent, determination, and ability to adapt, all of which are really important in getting the most out of a Supercar.”

Courtney and Feeney will compete in different categories at this weekend’s Supercars SuperSprint at Eastern Creek in Sydney.
