Josh’s future up to Eagles

- BONNIE RAYNOR

WEST Coast spearhead Josh Kennedy has declared his desire to play on beyond 2020 – if the club wants to offer him another contract.

The 32-year-old claimed his third Glendinning-Allen Medal in last Sunday’s 30point win against Fremantle for his dominant four-goal haul in his milestone 250th game.

Kennedy is one of many Eagles off-contract at season’s end, with the AFL’s contract negotiation freeze casting doubt over his playing future – until now.

“It’s been such a weird year with COVID and everything going on with the AFL, different list changes for next year, so we’ll probably sit down towards the end (of the year),” Kennedy told 6PR.

“Whatever the club want to do, we’ll sit down and see what’s available and what’s there.

“If the option came up that there was going to be another contract, I’d definitely take that, for sure.”

The two-time Coleman medallist said the decision was effectively up to the club as it continued to develop young forwards Oscar Allen and Jake Waterman.

“Yeah, of course I’d love to (play on),” he said.

“I love playing football, I love being able to rock up every day in a job that I actually love, and I’ve got some of my really good friends that I’m able to connect with every day.

“To keep that going would be quite cool, but I’m pretty content with whatever happens.

“If it was to end this year, it is what it is.”

Kennedy joined West Coast in 2008 after spending two seasons on Carlton’s roster as part of the infamous Chris Judd trade.
