THE CANDIDATES
TWENTY-FIVE candidates have been nominated to stand for political parties in Gold Coast seats at the state election on October 31.
In the previous poll in 2017, the Coast’s 10 seats attracted 40 candidates.
Once the state parliament rises for the final time in this term and the government goes into caretaker mode, a date on the close of nominations can be determined.
At this stage Electoral Commission of Queensland staff suggest it seems likely the writ for the election will be issued on October 6 and nominations close on October 12.
This poll could attract a similar number once the minor parties and independents nominate.
Labor is yet to preselect all its candidates. At this point, ALP candidates are on the ground campaigning in Currumbin, Coomera and Theodore.
One Nation and The Greens have also just kickstarted their campaign and are expected to announce more candidates.
The LNP has MPs in all but one seat. In Gaven, its candidate, Kirsten Jackson, began campaigning last year.
