Miers delivers jab at ‘cranky’ Dangerfield

-

LIVEWIRE forward Gryan Miers says star Geelong teammate Patrick Dangerfield “needs to pull his head in” after he was a bit “cranky” during a big win over North Melbourne on Wednesday.

Dangerfield was sent to full forward to manage his load in the condensed AFL season, putting him alongside Miers.

The star Cat kicked two behinds while Miers booted four goals but the youngster cheekily said Dangerfield blamed his low return on poor delivery. “It’s pretty hard for him to complain about it when he’s the one kicking over our heads a lot, so he needs to pull his head in there,” Miers joked.

“He was a bit cranky last night, so I’m OK with him going back to the midfield because he was not giving me much in the forward line.

“He was a good player still, but attitude-wise, he was a bit crankier than usual.”

The four-goal haul was a career high for Miers, who said it was reward for his hard work.

The third-year Cat has averaged the same amount of disposals this season despite shorter games but hadn’t managed to hit the scoreboard as much as in 2019.

“It was pretty good to get the four (goals) and tick off the box,” he said.

“I’ve kicked three a few times but never gone on to that mini-bag as I would say it is, so I was pretty happy with that one.

“The last few weeks I feel like I have been flirting with it and haven’t been rewarded with the goals.”

Several regular members of the Cats forward line were missing against the Roos, with Gary Ablett (personal reasons), Luke Dahlhaus (heel), Gary Rohan and Esava Ratugolea (both managed) all out.

Miers said he and forward line “big papa” Tom Hawkins happily ran the show, the pair combining for seven goals against North Melbourne.
