WE MAKE THIS LOOK GOOD

GOLD Coast streetwear giant Culture Kings has dived face first into coronavirus mask fashion. The retailer has more than 200 designer face masks, bandanas and face shields. It comes as the Chief Health Officer says those unable to social distance should mask up.

GOLD Coast streetwear giant Culture Kings has launched a range of fashionable face masks on the back of increasing demand as coronavirus concerns grow.

The streetwear retailer, founded on the Gold Coast, has revealed its designs of more than 200 face masks, bandannas and face shields which, according to Pacific Fair store manager Dylan Harris, is helping spread the health message to a new demographic.

“Initially when we got the masks in, there wasn’t a large variety, so we didn’t see a lot of sales but since growing our collection we have seen a lot of traffic,” Mr Harris said. “We have a large range of styles for customers, which has even seen the older generation coming in to collect them after google searches.

“We have seen a spike in sales even on the Gold Coast, which surprised me. Sales have picked up the last couple of weeks since Victoria instated the mask.”

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young yesterday warned those people who could not safely social distance should be wearing masks.

Her comments came after COVID-19 concerns grew in Queensland over the weekend after a staffer at a Brisbane youth detention centre led to case numbers growing.

“I think that this is the time that everyone should consider that if they can’t maintain social distancing, it’s time to wear a mask,” she said.

“I’m not going to mandate it because I don’t believe we have broad scale community transfer.”

Doctor Sonu Haikerwal, who runs a Gold Coast COVID-19 clinic, and fellow Gold Coast doctors all support the wearing of masks in crowded areas on the Gold Coast, but say it should not yet be made mandatory. Victorians have been forced to wear masks in public or face fines of $200 since July 22.
