BULL SHARKS BETTER BUT THEY NEED CONSISTENCY

-

FOLLOWING two solid defeats, Bond University enjoyed a return to its home court and somewhat of a return to form as it fell to 2019 Sapphire Series netball premiers Brisbane South Wildcats in low-scoring affair.

With a COVID-limited crowd in full voice, the Bull Sharks jumped out to an early three-goal lead in a frenetic first period and claimed their first ladder points of the year by leading at first break, 10-9.

The second quarter however, proved decisive as the Wildcats enjoyed a ninegoal run either side of a strategic time-out from Bond coach Sheryl Burns. The Wildcats enjoyed a 23-16 lead at the break.

Whether it was the exceptional defence or simply some poor shooting, neither team converted at a solid rate. Both teams shot at less than 70 per cent for the game.

The Wildcats, however, created 15 more shot attempts than the home team and even with poor shooting that imbalance was overwhelming.

The Wildcats increased their lead in the third to lead by 13 before the Bull Sharks found some confidence by winning the final quarter and genuinely threatening to run down the Wildcats.

With another seven regular season games to go, the Bull Sharks need to find some consistency quickly as they head back to Brisbane for the next two games.

For the Bull Sharks, Shenae Grant and Ava Black were solid in defence while youngster Mackenzie Jordan made solid debut at goal attack.

For the visitors, Firebirds squad member Hulita Veve controlled the mid-court.
