WILL TO SHOW WAY

DAVISON, TICKFORD REUNITE: P38

-

TWO-TIME Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 winner Will Davison will again challenge for the Peter Brock Trophy with Tickford Racing.

The Gold Coast-based driver has agreed to co-drive for the team alongside Cameron Waters at Monster Energy Racing for the Enduro Cup.

He joins Michael Caruso, James Moffat and Broc Feeney as the team’s co-drivers for the endurance events on the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars calendar.

Davison had spent 2019 and the first two rounds of 2020 driving for Tickford Racing’s customer entry, 23Red Racing, but was left without a ride after 23Red’s major sponsor withdrew its support due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced pause on the Supercars season.

Joining Waters at Monster Energy Racing returns Davis to the team environment with which he had two podiums in 2019 and was equal leader with Waters on points following the Adelaide 500 in February.

“I’m really excited,” Davison said.

“(It’s been a) crazy year for so many, and it’s been hard to be on the sidelines, but to know I have such a great partner and team for the big one at Bathurst is pretty huge for me. It’s something I’m counting down the days for now.

“I know Cam well, obviously, I know everyone here at Tickford incredibly well, so I couldn’t be more excited to do my part in helping Cam and the team get a big result at Bathurst.

“It was obviously quite a natural progression.

“It was pretty easy to come to an arrangement with Tim (Edwards, chief executive and team principal) and everyone here because I love the team here.”

Having been closely involved with the team as part of

23Red Racing’s customer agreement from 2019 through to early 2020, Davison has a strong relationship with Tickford Racing and its drivers.

The move to the No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang also reunites Davison with the entry he competed in for Tickford under its Ford Performance Racing guise from 2011-2013.

With Bathurst wins in 2009 and 2016 under his belt, Davison will chase win No. 3 at Mount Panorama in car No. 6, the same number he has had in 10 of his 19 career Supercars race wins.

“I think we’re a great shot,” Davison said.

“I have awesome memories with car No. 6, very fond memories.

“I got so close at Bathurst in 6, I was on pole, I feel like a few of my greatest ones that got away were in Car 6, so let’s make sure we get it this year.

“I know Cam’s been incredibly unfortunate the last few years.

“He’s always fast there, and the last two or three years he’s had unfortunate accidents, so I think it owes him a big result as well.

“I’ll certainly do anything to get my third, and to be a part of Cam’s first big one would be absolutely everything for me.”
