Geppert’s accused murderer has hearing delayed by COVID
A TEENAGER accused of stabbing to death the younger brother of notorious ex-bikie Ben Geppert had his case delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Jarvis Farrier was due to face a committal hearing on Thursday for the alleged murder of Harrison Geppert on
September 4 last year. It is alleged Farrier, 19, stabbed Geppert in the back during a confrontation in a Varsity Lakes park.
Mr Geppert, 17, died at the scene.
Farrier’s lawyer Dan Rawlings told the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday the committal hearing could not go ahead because Farrier wanted to be physically present for the evidence. Due to coronavirus restrictions, defendants in custody are only allowed to appear via videolink.
Mr Rawlings said he had been unable to get fresh instructions from Farrier because video conference with the prisons was limited due to the pandemic.
Five people, including two paramedics, two eyewitnesses and a doctor, were scheduled to take the stand. Magistrate Michelle Dooley granted the hearing be adjourned.
The court will determine a new hearing date on Thursday once police have been able to obtain witness availability.
Mr Geppert’s older brother Ben Geppert, a former Hells Angels bikie, has come into prominence due to his prolific posting on Instagram.
At the time of his little brother’s death he posted a tribute.
“Rest in paradise Harry
Geppert I love you my little brother!
“I love you more than anything regardless of the things that have gone on in our family your still my blood! (sic).”
Harrison Geppert’s death was unrelated to his older brother’s former bikie links.
