Robina has its revenge on 10-man Southport

ROBINA City has come up trumps in the battle of the newly promoted, defeating Southport 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

After developing a fierce rivalry last year that ended in Southport winning the Coast League grand final after Robina secured the league title, the two met for the second time this season and Robina managed to avenge its 4-1 loss from the last time the two met.

While the tide shifted when Southport had a man sent off, Robina managed to withstand the onslaught to make it two wins in a row.

“The boys were dangerous,” Robina coach Nathan Mulhearn said.

“The send-off took a bit of sting out of us late in the second half. They were angry and fired up and got the goal back.

“Building on last week, it’s the first time we’ve put backto-back wins together.

“We’ve really put the hard yards in and that’s showing.”

In other Gold Coast Premier League results, Coomera and Palm Beach battled out an intriguing nil-all draw, Burleigh Heads defeated Nerang 5-4 in a top-four-defining clash and Surfers Paradise enjoyed a 5-0 win over Broadbeach United at Nikiforides.

“We haven’t had much success here the last few years so we wanted to make sure where we were,” Surfers coach Alex Morrison said.

Broadbeach mentor Andrew Robinson said the result was a bitter blow.

“It probably wasn’t our best game and I’d go as far as saying it was one of our worst,” he said.

Coast League sides Musgrave and Kingscliff also secured automatic Gold Coast Premier League promotions.

In National Premier Leagues action, the Gold Coast Knights claimed bragging rights in the local derby with a 3-0 win over Gold Coast United. Jheison Macuace was man of the match with two goals, while Mason Cross scored a long-range goal on debut.
