KOOL SALE FOR $27M

- JANELLE ESTREICH AND QUENTIN TOD

THE record for a Gold Coast riverfront home has been smashed with the $27 million sale of the Isle of Capri family home of businessman Bruce Coulson and wife Carolyne.

Mr Coulson, who founded the Kool Kids early-learning centres. said they never set out to sell the property but were “put in the position where we had to make a decision.”

The near 3000sq m threelevel home in The Promenade has been bought by a Chinese buyer from Sydney.

THE appetite for prestige property on the Gold Coast has gone next level with a $27 million mega sale cracking the Queensland record for a completed house.

The sprawling compound fronting the Nerang River in Isle of Capri was home to businessman Bruce Coulson and his wife Carolyne Coulson.

The 2961sq m three-level home at 41-45 The Promenade was sold to a Chinese buyer from Sydney.

Mr Coulson, who founded and later sold the Kool Kids early-learning centre chain, said the house wasn’t for sale.

“We never set out to sell the property,” he said.

“We were put in the position where we had to make a decision.”

The recently completed residence occupies three blocks totalling 2961sq m at 41-45 The Promenade and boasts some of the city’s best main river and skyline views.

Mr Coulson said the family had yet to decide how they would replace their home.

“We have a 13-year-old son who still likes kicking a ball around so we might look for land, probably on the river.”

The landmark sale was handled by Amir Prestige principal Amir Mian who on Thursday declined to comment.

An older single-level house was cleared to make way for the imposing Jared Poole design which saw an extension added to an existing residence along with a riverside pool, tennis court and rooftop bar with views back to the hinterland.

The Coulsons embarked on the house in 2017 after spending $13.45 million on adjoining properties.

One of the homes that made way for the new mansion was at one time rented by movie star Dwayne ‘ The Rock’ Johnson at $20,000 a week.

At $27 million, the riverfront sale trumps the $25 million contract signed in May by property development scion Dean Pask for the beachfront Mermaid Beach family home of BreakFree founder Tony Smith.

The Smith sale equalled the price achieved on former Billabong boss Scott Perrin’s Albatross Ave, Mermaid Beach mansion, known as Tidemark, which had held the state record for a completed house since 2016.

In 2008, Tony Smith sold an uncompleted mansion spread over four blocks and 1620sq m of beachfront land in Hedges Ave to later-failed internet whiz Daniel Tzvetkoff for $27 million.

The Isle of Capri sale comes as negotiations continue on a Sovereign Islands trophy mansion.

Last weekend eight bidders registered for a tilt at the extravagant residence on five titles on Knightsbridge Pde East which was ultimately passed in at $28 million.
