LNP deny fly video ‘bullying’
DEB Frecklington has defended a Liberal National Party video circulating on social media apparently showing Deputy Premier Steven Miles eating a fly.
The video on their social media channels, was labelled an act of “bullying” against Mr Miles.
In it, the LNP’s marketing team used edited clips, many from when Mr Miles was younger, to make him appear a slow and bumbling politician. In one clip, they superimposed a “loading” symbol on his head.
The video plays and then replays an unfortunate moment where Mr Miles (pictured) was filmed swallowing a fly.
In another clip, when he swats a fly away, they captioned it: “Go away, I’m not hungry.”
The way he walks is also joked about in the video. Some were unimpressed. “This ad says everything you need to know about Qld Libs. They lack the intelligence to mount a decent argument as to why they would make a good government and they have the kind of political tactics that you’d expect to see from primary school bullies,” one person wrote.
But Opposition Leader Ms Frecklington said it was the Labor Party that had led a “nasty campaign”.
Asked whether the LNP had descended into dirty politics by posting the video, Ms Frecklington, who said she had not seen it, said she had run a positive campaign.
“The LNP have a positive economic plan to lead Queensland out of this recession that has been set up by the Palaszczuk government,” she said.
“It was Premier who set up this campaign as a nasty campaign. I have run a positive campaign and run a positive plan to get Queenslanders back to work.”
