COVID-19 authorities’ calls hard to fathom

- GAEL BEALE, GOLD COAST

INTRIGUING, to say the least. A Brisbane woman has contracted the “super contagious mutant UK strain” of the coronavirus, exactly how, exactly when, who from, where – nobody knows.

The Queensland Premier and her chief health officer’s response, was one of “containment”, close the Greater Brisbane area down for three days.

Since then, it’s been revealed the partner of the Brisbane woman has now tested positive for the same “super contagious mutant UK strain”.

Which begs the question: “Who or how many others will come out of the woodwork”?

The “normal procedure” for some time now has been for anybody having a “positive test result” to the initial strain has been “selffunded-isolation inside a government-stated quarantine hotel guarded by ADF or police or both, then “released after a 14-day quarantine period, having on day 14 and prior to release (I hope) having been tested and shown to be “free from infection”.

I am a layperson with absolutely no medical background but I do have a lot of common sense.

I have made it a point of always being as well read as possible but I am certainly sick and tired of the lack of continuity throughout the past 12 months and now this year seems to be starting off the same way.

A few areas of Australia have been relatively free from the coronavirus except for the usual Neanderthals who seem to think it’s funny to try to buck the system and sneak across borders, lie about where they have been, hold parties etc. and generally get away with it, while other areas are already into their second or third waves of the coronavirus.

Wouldn’t you think that we as a country should be pretty much in the clear as we are after all, like New Zealand, pretty remote islands without any worries about borders into or from other countries.

But while there are thousands of ex-pats attempting to get back home and are unable to get flights, we seem to have huge volumes of people from other countries which are rife with the virus and all its mutations entering Australia. Why are they able to enter?

I think like most people, I am getting really aggravated at the hit-and-miss type reactions from those in authority when it comes to this pandemic and the actions taken against those found to have it, when there has been absolutely no continuity throughout the past year.
