Country must unite as one to conquer crisis

- GAEL BEALE, GOLD COAST

A QUOTE from Hamlet – “To Be or Not to Be, That Is the Question” – seems to be very pertinent today when the coronavirus “has the world by the short and curlies”.

We’ve had the slogan “we are all in this together” but the reality is a million miles away from the actual truth.

Every country’s leaders and the leaders of every state and territory in Australia, should be asking the question.

Should we follow every other country or should we be dealing with this pandemic in such a way as is reflected by how our citizens live their lives, how our country works as a whole and where the country is situated in conjunction to the rest of the world – and not simply following the lead of other countries.

As far as this country is concerned, in times of crisis, such as we are now experiencing, Australia should be dealing with the situation as a whole – not simply as seven states and territories, each with their own ‘head person’ and their take on how things should be done.

Australia should, for the good of all of its citizens and for the country financially, be led by one person who has the best people for the job, with the best intelligence gleaned from all over the world on ‘best practices’ at their disposal, so that there is total unity, in not only how we are dealing with the problem but also, whatever actions are being taken, so we get the best and safest results for all citizens, no matter the state or the territory.

That person should be Prime Minister Scott Morrison (pictured). We’ve already endured 12 long months of this coronavirus and we still haven’t learned how best to take charge of it for the best results both for the citizens and the country as a whole.

Over the past year, we’ve seen how certain leaders have decided to implement and interpret how best to deal with the situation.

We’ve already seen second and third waves hitting and there are still huge problems which continue to grow and what’s worse now is we are also seeing super strains from overseas countries’ creeping in, sometimes with absolutely no knowledge of how they’ve been transmitted from one person to another.

If Australia doesn’t take this situation in hand with one person at the top – with the best people at their disposal for the good of the country as a whole – this pandemic will continue to move about communities and will see mutations within and from outside our country.

Australia, just like New Zealand, is extremely isolated from the rest of the world so our two countries should be able to totally isolate ourselves from other countries and also from within all of our borders but unfortunately, politics are being played out with individuals wanting to be ‘top dog’ without taking into account that we are one country and should be working together to get this country back on its feet.
