SHOT AT STARDOM

- KIRSTIN PAYNE

GOLD Coast DJ Tasha Losan was at a loss of how to spend her time during lockdown last year as the gigs dried up.

But instead of hitting the couch and indulging in Netflix, the 38-yearold decided to try something new – enter the 2020 Maxim magazine cover girl competition.

The former St Hilda’s and Benowa State school student said she was surprised to later learn she had placed third in the international competition.

The first-time model will be featured in the Maxim Australia magazine February edition out this week.

“When the competition popped up on my Instagram I thought there was no way I would get this far but it seemed like a bit of fun,” Ms Losan said.

“We all had to submit our own photos and then it went to voting.

“I promoted it and was very lucky to have so much support from my family and friends.”

The competition had more than 25,000 contestants worldwide and the grand prize of $10,000 included a cover shoot for the magazine and a chance to raise money for the K2 Adventure Foundation.

Tanaya Peck, a corporate flight attendant from California, won the competition.

Ms Losan said she hoped her success would encourage others to give new things a shot.

“I am not a spring chicken, I want to represent others entering modelling at a later stage,” she said.

The former ballet dancer and Sea World and Movie World performer is also using the notoriety she gained through the competition to promote her group for women in electronic music, Sonic Adventure Ladies.

“The group was also started last year. The industry is very maledominated so this group is to build up and bring together the women.

“I didn’t think last year would be as busy as it was but I wanted to make the most out of it.”

Ms Losan will thank her supporters at a party on Saturday at The Lawn at the Star from 7pm onwards.
