IT’S SIMPLY MUMMYLICIOUS …

- KATHLEEN SKENE

MULTI-tasking new mums looking to combine exercise with mothers’ group are pushing strong demand for a northern Gold Coast business.

Christine Groves has engaged two new trainers and is planning new classes to cope with an influx of new and returning customers to her Mummylicious Fitness, which runs group exercise with childminding at Paradise Point Parklands.

Ms Groves started the business in 2007 when her son was a baby and she wanted a change from her previous job in exercise rehabilitation. “I was working with Workcover, getting people back to work through exercise. It was a lot of travel because I’d go to gyms and people’s homes so I thought I’d create something of my own.

“Also, I was new to the Coast, and I decided to start something to meet other mums who wanted to get fit and didn’t want to put their babies in daycare.”

Ms Groves led the classes throughout her pregnancy with her daughter Ella, who then attended in her stroller as a baby and, as a teenager, now helps mind the babies.

Mummylicious began as a stroller fit program through Gold Coast council’s Active and Healthy program. Hundreds of mums would attend the classes in various parks from Ormeau to Main Beach, babies tucked into their prams.

It evolved into a static class at Paradise Point, where Ms Groves’ mother-in-law would help out with babies so mums could exercise.

The concept grew from there, with nannies now attending each class. There are now about 50 mums registered for Mummylicious, with expansion planned for Southport and a potential third location.
