Stifmeister could earn cult status
HE MIGHT be the bestnamed horse that is racing in Australia tomorrow and trainer Stuart Kendrick says rookie two-year-old galloper The Stifmeister has the ability to go with his catchy name.
The Stifmeister, to make his debut at Eagle Farm, was bought and named by Kendrick’s son Nathan and it’s a reference to the nickname of Steve Stifler (pictured) in the American Pie movie franchise.
Stifler’s mum was a popular character in the iconic movie and Kendrick’s gelding The Stifmeister is out of the mare Hot Mama.
“Nathan, my son, is behind that Krew Racing, an offshoot of Kendrick Racing, and he has been putting a few partnerships together to race some horses,” Kendrick said.
“Nathan bought this horse at the Ready To Run Sale, the first name he tried to get for him was Stifler but he didn’t get that so we ended up with The Stifmeister.
“I said to Nathan that if he ends up any good he will have a good following as it’s pretty catchy.”
The Stifmeister prepared for his racing debut by winning a jumpout by several lengths and then narrowly scored in a Sunshine Coast trial.
In the 850m trial, he sat behind the speed and looked to have plenty left to give as he cruised to the line in style.
The Stifmeister will be ridden by Melbourne Cup-winning hoop Michael Rodd in the QTIS 2YO Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm where bookies are keeping the gelding safe as a $4 chance.
Trainers will head to Eagle Farm on Saturday having little idea of how the controversial track will play. In many recent meetings it has been rock-hard but there was heavy rain in Brisbane on Thursday and there is more rain forecast.
